Lighting Technicians work closely with the Director of Photography and Lighting Director to achieve the desired visual effects that complement the director's vision.

The main role of a Lighting Technician is to execute lighting plans and provide practical support to the lighting team. They collaborate with other departments to ensure the lighting enhances the scene's storytelling while maintaining continuity. A Lighting Technician's duties include rigging lights, programming light boards, adjusting light fixtures, managing power distribution, troubleshooting technical issues, and ensuring all lighting equipment follows safety standards. Their role is dynamic and requires both creative and technical expertise to adapt to various shooting environments and styles.

Skills Required

A Lighting Technician must possess a combination of creative and technical skills. Proficiency in lighting equipment and electrical systems is essential, along with an understanding of color, shadow, and light quality. They should be adept at problem-solving, have strong communication and teamwork abilities, and be able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines. Knowledge of current lighting technology, including LED, and familiarity with industry-standard software for lighting design, are also crucial.
