How Does Trinidad and Tobago's Film Incentive Work?
Trinidad and Tobago offers one of the most generous film production incentives in the Caribbean through the Trinidad and Tobago Film Company (FilmTT). The program provides a cash rebate of up to 35% on qualifying production expenditure, with an additional 20% bonus for local labour spend, creating a potential combined benefit of up to 55%.
Rebate Structure
The incentive operates on a tiered rebate system:
- Up to 35% cash rebate: On qualifying production expenditure incurred in Trinidad and Tobago
- 20% local labour bonus: Additional rebate on salaries paid to Trinidad and Tobago nationals
- Minimum spend: USD 100,000 in qualifying local expenditure
- Annual program cap: USD 8 million
The rebate is paid in cash after production wraps and expenditure is audited. FilmTT manages the application process, production support, and rebate disbursement.

Why Productions Choose Trinidad and Tobago
Caribbean locations. Tropical beaches, lush rainforests, colonial architecture in Port of Spain, dramatic Northern Range mountains, and the Pitch Lake (the world's largest natural deposit of asphalt).
Cultural richness. Carnival, calypso, soca, and steelpan provide unique cultural backdrops. The twin-island republic offers distinctly different aesthetics between Trinidad and Tobago.
English-speaking crews. As an English-speaking nation, Trinidad and Tobago eliminates language barriers common in other Caribbean and Latin American locations.
Competitive costs. Local crew rates and production costs are lower than comparable Caribbean destinations like Puerto Rico or the Bahamas.
