What Films Were Shot in Hungary?
Hungary has attracted major film and television productions with its 30% (up to 37.5% effective) cash rebate. Notable productions filmed in Hungary include Fast Five, Titanic, Quantum of Solace, Spectre.
How Does Hungary's Film Tax Incentive Work?
Hungary offers a 30% cash rebate on production expenditure incurred in the country, administered by the National Film Institute (NFI). The rebate has attracted major studio productions to Budapest for over two decades, and was formally extended through 2030 with European Commission approval in December 2025.
Rebate Structure
The base rebate is 30% of qualifying Hungarian expenditure. Productions can include up to 25% of the rebate amount in non-Hungarian costs, effectively extending the rebate to 37.5% of the total eligible production expense. There is no minimum spend requirement per project, making the rebate accessible to productions of any budget level.
The rebate is provided as a cash refund after production completion (post-financing model). Registration is first-come, first-served, with an annual cap.
2026 Registration Cap
The 2026 registration cap is set at HUF 140 billion (approximately $426 million), with a payout collection cap of HUF 70 billion (~$213 million). HUF 21 billion (~$64 million) is reserved for local Hungarian productions. Productions that exceed the initial cap enter a waiting queue.
Why Productions Choose Hungary
Studio infrastructure. Origo Studios, Korda Studios, and Stern Studios provide large-scale shooting facilities with modern equipment and experienced local support.
Cost efficiency. Hungarian crew rates and local costs are substantially lower than Western European and North American markets, stretching production budgets further.
Experienced crew base. Decades of international production experience (Dune, The Brutalist, Blade Runner 2049) have built a highly skilled local crew.
Diverse locations. Budapest's architecture can double for many European cities. The Hungarian countryside provides period and rural locations.
